HC Deb 21 March 1906 vol 154 cc388-9
MR. FLYNN

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland, in reference to the estate of W. N. Leader, Dromagh, county Cork, and the correspondence which has passed between the Reverend Father Casey, P.P., and the hon. Member for North Cork, on the one hand, and the Estates Commissioners on the other, will the Commissioners now state what steps they have taken to bring about the reinstatement of the evicted tenants, Mr. Job Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Mary Cronin (to the reinstatement of whom the landlord has given consent); and, in view of this landlord's willingness to sell a large portion of the untenanted land in his possession, and of the fact that the originating notice was lodged by the owner in June, 1905, will the Commissioners take immediate steps to secure this land for the purpose of creating suitable holdings for other evicted tenants, and for the labourers of the locality, and for the enlargement of the present uneconomic holdings on the estate.

MR. BRYCE

I beg to refer to my reply to the hon. Member's Question of the 26th February on this subject.† The Estates Commissioners inform me that they have not yet been able to make inquiries into the cases of these evicted tenants, but that they hope to be in a position to do so shortly.

MR. FLYNN

This matter has been going on a long time. Will the Land Commissioners make the inquiries soon?

MR. BRYCE

I have no doubt they will do so as soon as they can.
