HC Deb 20 March 1906 vol 154 cc216-7
LORD TURNOUR (Sussex, Horsham)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education if he will state the number of persons whose goods were distrained upon owing to objections to paying the Education Rate during the years 1903, 1904, and 1905.

* THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. GLADSTONE,) Leeds, W.

I am aware of the fact that prosecutions continue to be brought against persons holding conscientious objections to the Education Act of 1902, and I much regret it; but I do not see how the Government can interfere in the matter pending the introduction of the Education Bill.
