HC Deb 20 March 1906 vol 154 c211
MR. BELLAIRS (Lynn Regis)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether the Admiralty will direct a ballot to be taken of the 418 cadets at the Royal Naval College, Osborne, and the new system cadets now at Dartmouth, in order to ascertain how many, if any, intend to volunteer for the engineering branch; and whether he will state the result to the House.

MR. EDMUND ROBERTSON

It is not considered necessary to take the course suggested by my hon. friend.

MR. BELLAIRS

asked how the right hon. Gentleman proposed to get over the disinclination of these boys to join the engineering branch.

MR. EDMUND ROBERTSON

I do not know that there is any such disinclination.
