I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what were the profits of the mines during the year preceding, and also during the year succeeding, the introduction of Chinese; and also what was the revenue accruing to the Government from these mining profits during the year preceding, and also during the year succeeding, the introduction of Chinese.

The profits of mines for the year June, 1903, to June, 1904, amounted to £4,712,858, and the profits for the year June, 1904, to June, 1905, to £5,737,494. The profit tax brought in £343,014 and £415,628 in in the two years.
