§ SIR GILBERT PARKER (Gravesend)I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what were the profits of the mines during the year preceding, and also during the year succeeding, the introduction of Chinese; and also what was the revenue accruing to the Government from these mining profits during the year preceding, and also during 1402 the year succeeding, the introduction of Chinese.
§ * MR. CHURCHILLThe profits of mines for the year June, 1903, to June, 1904, amounted to £4,712,858, and the profits for the year June, 1904, to June, 1905, to £5,737,494. The profit tax brought in £343,014 and £415,628 in in the two years.
