HC Deb 13 March 1906 vol 153 cc1098-9
MR. GEORGE ROBERTS (Norwich)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is proposed to introduce legislation to limit the hours of employment of waiters, waitresses, and bar attendants; and, if so, can he give the approximate date when such legislation will be introduced.

* MR. GLADSTONE

Under the Shop Hours Act of 1892 young persons, namely, those under eighteen, may not be employed for more than seventy-four hours a week, including meal times, in public houses or refreshment houses. Otherwise there is no limit on the employment of waiters, etc., but I am afraid I cannot make any promise as to legislation on this subject.
