HC Deb 12 March 1906 vol 153 cc936-7
MR. STRAUS (Tower Hamlets, Mile End)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether he is aware that the recent depreciation in the value of South African securities is due to certain mining magnates bearing shares, in other words selling with the sole intention of depressing the market and repurchasing at a lower price; and whether he proposes to bring in legislation that would put a stop to this in the future.

SIR H. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

I am not aware of the facts alleged in the Question, nor do I see how legislation could put a stop to such practices.
