HC Deb 12 March 1906 vol 153 cc893-4
MR. NANNETTI

To ask the Secretary to the Treasury, whether he can assign any reason for the fact that in some Dublin offices assistant clerks (new class) have been promoted to the second division, whereas in other offices no such promotions have taken place; and whether he can state the number of assistant clerks (new class) promoted and the number eligible for promotion in the following Dublin offices: Local Government Board, Inland Revenue, National Education Office, General Post Office, Irish Land Commission, Department of Agriculture, Public Works Office, General Prisons Office, and Valuation Office.

(Answered by Mr. McKenna.) The Treasury can only approve such promotions on the recommendation of the head of a department. I have no information as to number of assistant clerks (new class) eligible for promotion. The following are the numbers of assistant clerks (new class) so promoted in the departments named: Local Government Board, 2; Inland Revenue, 2; Irish Land Commission, 1; Department of Agriculture, etc., 2. In addition, three assistant clerks not strictly speaking assistant clerks of the new class (formerly boy clerks) were so promoted, viz., Post Office, 1; Land Commission, 1; Department of Agriculture, 1.
