HC Deb 06 March 1906 vol 153 c289
MR. DUNN (Cornwall, Camborne)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the fact that the evidence in support of the alleged untruthfulness of the last paragraph of Mr. Boland's communication to the Morning Leader (vide No. 14, Cd. 2819), is an extract from the Transvaal Leader, published thirty-one days after Mr. Boland's communication was written, and nine days after it was published; and whether, having regard to this fact, he will ask for an extract from any Transvaal newspaper referring to the outrage in question, published prior to the date upon which Mr. Boland wrote (14th August, 1905) or prior to the date of the publication of such communication (6th September, 1905).

* MR. CHURCHILL

The hon. Member is fully entitled to call attention to this fact. I will inquire whether previous notice had been taken in the Press of the outrage in question. But having regard to the heavy charges involved in telegraphing to South Africa and the pressing need of public economy, I hope the hon. Gentleman will allow me to make the inquiries by despatch.
