HC Deb 25 June 1906 vol 159 c646
* MR. CHARLES ROBERTS (Lincoln)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will lay before Parliament a Report from His Majesty s Consul at Salonica, showing the changes introduced in Macedonia by the civil agents in the several branches of local government, in the judicial system, and in the prison accommodation.

MR. RUNCIMAN

We have no Report from His Majesty's Consul-General at Salonica, but despatches from the British representative on the financial Commission, of which the civil agents are members, will eventually be laid, dealing generally with the administrative situation in the three Vilayets. With regard to judicial reforms, it will be seen from No. 138, Page 99, of Turkey No. 1, 1906, that it was not found possible to invest this Commission with the power of supervising the judicial Administration.
