HC Deb 25 June 1906 vol 159 c605
MR. DUFFY

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland how many extra policemen are stationed in Loughrea at present arising out of the eviction of Mr. Martin Ward; how many are employed protecting the men in possession of Mr. Ward's premises; is any share of the cost to be borne by the landlord, Lord Clanricarde; and, if not, who will be responsible.

(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) I am informed by the police authorities that the number of extra policemen at present stationed in Loughrea is eleven. No policemen have been specially detailed for the protection of the caretakers of Mr. Ward's late premises, but this duty is performed by the police generally. The extra policemen at Loughrea belong to the established force of county Galway, and the cost therefore falls on the Parliamentary Vote, and not on local authorities or other persons.
