HC Deb 25 June 1906 vol 159 c612
MR. DUFFY

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been directed to the proposed sale of a large estate, situated in Clonamirin, Mount Shannon, county Galway, in sections, to four or five tenants; whether he is aware that close on forty small tenancies, of an average valuation of less than £5, exist in the neighbourhood; and whether the Estates Commissioners will institute special inquiry into the circumstances attending the sale of the John F. George and James Wakely estate before sanctioning a sale which, if carried out, will stereotype the poverty of the congested occupiers in the district.

(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) The Estates Commissioners inform me that in the short time since notice of this Question was given they have been unable to trace any proceedings as having been instituted before them in respect of the estate referred to, but they will have a further investigation made, and I will apprise the hon. Member of the result.
