§ MR. LONSDALE (Armagh, Mid.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the expenses to which Yeomanry officers are subjected during their annual training, for bands, subscriptions, and entertainments are regarded as burdensome by many officers; and whether, in view of the fact that these charges deter many young men from serving in the Yeomanry, he will represent to Commanding Officers the desirability of limiting those expenses as much as possible.
§ *MR. HALDANEIt is the duty of all Commanding Officers of Imperial Yeomanry to endeavour to keep down the expenses of officers as far as possible; I doubt whether any good purpose would be served by a mere general official representation to this effect.
§ MR. LONSDALEIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that one of the Companies of the London Imperial Yeomanry is heavily in debt in consequence of these expenses?
