HC Deb 04 July 1906 vol 160 cc37-8
MR. T. DAVIES

I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether he can inform the House when he expects the work of extending the Mall completed; † See (4) Debates, clix., 839; clvii., 654 and whether it is his intention to demolish any more of the buildings in Spring Gardens in order to have a wider and a more imposing entrance from Charing Cross.

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. HARCOURT,) Lancashire, Rossendale

The new Admiralty building at the end of the Mall is expected to be completed by the end of 1908. The buildings in Spring Gardens referred to are not the property of His Majesty's Government and I am not aware of any proposal to demolish them, but if this is suggested it would seem to be in the nature of a Metropolitan improvement and as such is a matter for the London County Council.
