HC Deb 03 July 1906 vol 159 cc1609-10
COLONEL LOCK WOOD (Essex, Epping)

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether he has yet sufficiently considered the question of raising the wages of the labourers at Waltham Abbey and Enfield Lock from 21s. to 23s. 6d., so as to bring them into conformity with the rate existing elsewhere, and can he make a definite statement on the subject.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) The question of raising the minimum wage at these factories from 21s. to 23s. a week (not 23s. 6d. as stated in the Question) has necessitated a somewhat detailed investigation, but it is hoped that it may be possible to announce the decision shortly.
