§ MR. FETHERSTONHAUGH (Fermanagh)To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been called to the Resolutions of the Irish Medical Association urging the importance of appointing an independent Irish medical man to the Poor Law Commission before it comes to investigate complaints as to the position and remuneration of the Irish Poor Law medical officers; and whether it would be possible for him to receive a deputation of the association as to the present condition of the Irish Poor Law Medical service.
(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) The Resolutions referred to do not appear to have been forwarded to me, but I beg to refer to the reply given by my right hon. friend the First Lord of the Treasury on a Question on the subject put by the hon. Member for South Down on March 14th.† I am not sure whether the reference to the Royal Commission extends to the grievances of the Irish Poor Law medical officers, but the Commission will doubtless be prepared to receive any statement on the subject which the medical officers may choose to forward, either directly or through me, as they may prefer. In the meantime, it does not appear to be necessary that I should consider the question of receiving the proposed deputation.
