HC Deb 04 May 1905 vol 145 cc903-4
MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that the vaccination officer for the borough of Brighton has recently obtained warrants of distress upon the goods of several persons in the borough for alleged noncompliance with^ the terms of The Vaccination Act, 1898; and, seeing that this officer is employed by the Brighton-Board of Guardians, and paid by that body, will he state why they were not communicated with before such measures, were resorted to.

(Answered by Mr. Grant Lawson.) The Local Government Board have not received any information as to the matter referred to; but, in their opinion, the application for a distress warrant forms part of the proceedings for the enforcement of the Vaccination Acts. These proceedings the vaccination officer is empowered to take without previous communication with the guardians.
