HC Deb 30 March 1905 vol 143 c1696
MR. McKEAN (Monaghan, S.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he will explain why the Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction for Ireland has refused to sanction the appointment made by the County Monaghan Committee of Technical Instruction of Miss Brigid Duffy, as crochet lace teacher, in view of the fact that Miss Duffy held a similar position with the approval of the Department under the County Galway Committee of Technical Instruction from 1901 till 1903.

(Answered by Mr. Water Long.) The Department refused to approve of the appointment of Miss Duffy because she was not qualified for teaching fine Clones crochet, which is an essential for county Monaghan. The work upon which Miss Duffy was engaged in county Galway was chiefly raised crochet.
