To ask the Secretary of State for War what is the cost to the Government per 1,000 rounds of the 303 cordite ammunition as now issued.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Arnold-Forster.) The cost per 1,000 rounds of the Mark VI. ammunition for 1903–4 was—Ordnance Factories, £4 7s. 2¾d.; Trade (average), £4 10s. 0d. For the year 1904–5 the actual factories' price has not yet been worked out, but the trade average price is £4 8s. 6d. These prices are exclusive of cost of inspection and other Departmental expenses. † See page 641.
