To ask the Secretary of State for India whether the Government of India supplies salt free of duty to all the native States of India; and, if so, will he say whether the Government imposes any restrictions as to the profit which the native States may secure on re-sale of the salt to the public.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) The Answer to the first part of the Question is in the negative. The right is enjoyed by certain States only, and is in virtue of special agreements. With regard to restrictions on re-sale, the hon. Member is referred to the information given in answer to a Question put by him on December 16th, † 1902. The conditions vary in different cases.
