§ MR. JOHN CAMPBELL (Armagh, S.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that by agreement signed between the Commissioners of National Education (Ireland) and those teachers who were in training at the time of the abolition of the results system, the latter had assured unto them the same emoluments as they would have received under that system; and whether he can state by what authority the Commissioners have reduced the initial salaries so secured.
§ MR. WALTER LONGThe agreement entered into between the Commissioners and the teachers in training does not contain any provision of the nature suggested. The form of agreement which was in use when the results system was abolished, and is still in use, is set forth in Schedule VII. to the Rules of the Commissioners. Teachers, as a rule, now receive higher incomes upon first being appointed to national schools than they received under the former regulations.
