I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether it is intended to appoint as Recorder of Dublin a barrister sharing the religious and political opinions of the majority of the people of Dublin.

Mr. T. L. O'Shaughnessy, K. C., has been appointed as Recorder of Dublin.

MR. MACVEAGH

Are his political and religious opinions in accord with those of the majority of the people of Dublin?

MR. WALTER LONG

I have no knowledge whatever.

Will you appoint a Royal Commission with statutory powers to ascertain?

MR. JOSEPH DEVLIN

Was the Ulster Unionist Party consulted before the appointment was made?
