HC Deb 07 June 1905 vol 147 cc937-8
MR. BUCHANAN (Perthshire, E.)

To ask the Secretary of State for India whether it is proposed to make any alteration in the constitution of the Viceroy's Council, or to modify in any respect the powers of the Commander-in-Chief or the Military Member of Council.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) The question of the powers and responsibilities of the Commander-in-Chief in India and of the member of the Governor-General's Council in charge of the Military Department has recently been under the consideration of His Majesty's Government. I am unable to make any statement on the subject at present, but I propose to lay Papers upon the Table very shortly.
