HC Deb 07 June 1905 vol 147 c927
MR. CATHCART WASON (Orkney and Shetland)

To ask the Lord-Advocate whether he is aware, with reference to the grant from the Congested Districts Board for the construction of a road from Hoy to Rackwick, that the money was originally voted for the shorter and more direct road, and that it now appears that a longer and more expensive road is proposed, and that the grant will be expended on that portion, which may be of individual benefit, but which is of no advantage to the Rackwick village; and whether a further grant will be made to complete the road to the Rackwick village.

(Answered by Mr. Scott Dickson.) The Congested Districts Board have agreed that the grant originally voted for a road from Hoy to Rackwick by a shorter line may be applied in construction of a road following a different route which is now put forward as of greater public convenience by the county council. The grant will not be paid unless the road is completed.
