HC Deb 27 July 1905 vol 150 cc594-5
MR. HERBERT ROBERTS (Denbighshire, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he has received from the Government of India a summary of the views expressed by the district officers in reply to the despatch of the Government of India, dated the 30th September, 1904, with reference to certain Amendments in the Bengal Excise Bill as passed by the Select Committee; and whether he can give an assurance that the Bill will be reintroduced in the Bengal Legislative Council during the ensuing session.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Mr. BRODRICK,) Surrey, Guildford

The Answer to the first part of the Question is in the negative. There is no intention of dropping the Bill, but I will inquire as to the possibility of proceeding with it during the ensuing session.
