HC Deb 13 July 1905 vol 149 c546
MR. MCCRAB (Edinburgh, E.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War if he can state the percentages of marksmen, first-class shots, second-class shots, and third-class shots in the Volunteer infantry and Regular infantry forces respectively.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR(Mr.ARNOLD-FORSTER, Belfast, W.

): The percentages required are as follows:—

Marksmen. 1st Class. 2nd Class. 3rd Class.
Regular Infantry 9.6 27.3 41.6 21.3
Volunteer Infantry:
Old Course 37 0 62.6 0.2
New Course 20.3 44.2 29.7 5.6

Volunteer battalions may elect which of these courses is to be fired. It must be pointed out that these figures do not serve for purposes for comparison, as the courses shot by Regular and Volunteer infantry are entirely different.
