HC Deb 12 July 1905 vol 149 cc402-3
COLONEL NOLAN (Galway, N.)

I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if his attention has been drawn to the report of the Irish Law Incorporated Society, which states that more money is wanted for the satisfactory working of the Purchase Act; if he has considered the desirability of paying partly in bonds instead of wholly in cash such vendors as are willing to accept bonds; and if bonds can be issued for this purpose which would be redeemed at par by Government in from two to five years.

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN, ) Worcestershire, E.

I have received a copy of the resolution passed by the Incorporated Law Society of Ireland upon this subject, which is now engaging the serious attention of the Government. I cannot at present make any statement on the matter; but my right hon. friend the Chief Secretary will communicate the views of the Government to the House as soon as he is in a position to do so.

COLONEL NOLAN

Will it be this session?

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

Yes, Sir.
