HC Deb 12 July 1905 vol 149 c403
MR. BOLAND

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can give the names of the foreign countries which are represented by Consuls in Ireland; and can he state how many Consuls have been appointed by the United States, France, Spain, and Germany to look after the trade interests of those countries respectively in Ireland.

*THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Earl PERCY,) Kensington, S.

The following foreign countries are represented by Consular officers:—Argentine Republic, Austria-Hungary, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hayti, Honduras, Italy, Liberia, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden and Norway, Turkey, United States of America, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The United States of America have appointed ten Consular officers; France eight; Spain six; Germany seven.

MR. BOLAND

If foreign countries think it desirable to appoint Consuls in Ireland why do not the Government collect statistics in the same way with regard to Irish trade?

EARL PERCY

Our Consuls cannot supply statistics which foreign governments do not publish.
