HC Deb 11 July 1905 vol 149 cc247-8
MR. A. K. LOYD (Berkshire, Abingdon)

To ask the President of the Board of Agriculture whether the progressive decrease of outbreaks of swine fever shown in each quarter of 1904, as compared with the corresponding quarter of 1903, was continued in the first two quarters of 1905, as compared respectively with the first two quarters of 1904.

(Answered by Mr. Ailwyn Fellowes.) I am glad to say that the decrease in the number of outbreaks of swine fever in 1904 as compared with 1903 has been more than maintained this year, as will be seen from the following table:—

Period. 1905. 1904. 1903.
1st Quarter 155 320 353
2nd Quarter 267 478 526
3rd Quarter 240 306
4th Quarter 158 293
Total for the Year. 1,196 1,478

The number of outbreaks during the first six months of the current year has been 422 as compared with 798 in the corresponding period of 1904, a decrease of 47 per cent.
