HC Deb 11 July 1905 vol 149 c247
MR. REGINALD LUCAS (Portsmouth)

To ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether it is proposed to reconsider the age limit for major-generals, Royal Marines, who at present do not retire until the age of sixty-five, whereas, in the executive and other branches of the Royal Navy, officers of corresponding rank retire at sixty years of age, or earlier if unemployed for periods varying from three to five years.

(Answered by Mr. Pretyman.) It is not proposed to make a change in the manner suggested. The regulations governing the service and retirement of officers of the Royal Marines are not based on the same general principles as those applied to officers of the Navy.
