HC Deb 11 July 1905 vol 149 cc262-3
MR. REDDY (King's County, Birr)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it has come to his knowledge that a lottery was held during a recent carnival at Bristol; and, if so, whether any action has been taken by the authorities with regard to it.

THE UNDER - SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. COCHRANE, Ayreshire, N.)

I am in communication with the Board of Trade and with the local police authorities in this matter, but I am not yet in a position to reply to the Question further than by referring the hon. Member to the statement made by the Duke of Marlborough in another place on the 29th of May † last.

MR. MACVEAGH (Down, S.)

Is it a fact that the Bishop of Bristol publicly denounced this lottery, and that the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant was one of the patrons?
