HC Deb 10 July 1905 vol 149 cc84-5
MAJOR EVANS GORDON

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the proposed amalgamation of the Johannesburg Consolidated Investment and the Barnato Consolidated Investment Companies; whether he is aware that a large amount of English and European capital is invested in these concerns, and that attempts to raise further capital in this country are now being made; and whether, seeing that owing to these companies being registered in the Transvaal the English and European shareholders have no means of protecting their interests or of representing their views, he will bring this transaction to the notice of the Committee which is at present inquiring into these subjects.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY TO THE BOARD OF TRADE (MR. BONAR LAW, Glasgow, Blackfriars)

I have no knowledge of the case mentioned, but the attention of the Committee has been specially directed by the Board of Trade to the question of companies registered abroad and appealing to investors in this country.
