HC Deb 23 February 1905 vol 141 cc1077-8
MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

To ask the Secretary of State for India if he will consider the expediency of recommending the Governor-General of India in Council to endeavour to arrange for the abolition or further reduction of the salt tax.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) I am confident that the question of the salt duty will be considered, together with other questions of taxation, by the Government of India in connection with the financial arrangements for the year, and as I have already been in communication with them on these subjects I do not think it necessary to make any recommendation to them.
