HC Deb 01 August 1905 vol 150 c1162
MR. LOUGH

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that his order of the 17th June last, d recting that, in recognition of the visit of His Majesty the King of Spain, the whole of the Metropolitan Police actually on duty during that visit, exclusive of those employed at Woolwich Dockyard and War Department stations, should receive two extra days pay has not been strictly carried out: whether there are still some 300 men who have not yet received this extra pay; and whether he will issue directions that this order should at once be carried into full effect.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Akers-Douglas, Kent, St. Augustine's)

The grant of extra pay was made in recognition of the extra work entailed by the visit of His Majesty the King of Spain. Police employed in the service and at the cost of public departments or private individuals were not required to do extra work in consequence of the Royal visit; and, on the occasions of the visits of the King of Italy and of President Loubet, these men did not receive extra pay. All the others have received it, with the exception of men detached, suspended, or off pay.
