HC Deb 17 April 1905 vol 145 cc302-3
MR. LAMBERT

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War what was the date of the request of the Comptroller-General to be made acquainted with the steps taken by the Commanding Royal Engineer to satisfy himself of the correctness of the expenditure charged by the manager of the Connelmore brickfields; and when the reply will be sent.

* MR. BROMLEY DAVENPORT

The request of the Auditor-General was dated 5th October, 1904, and the reply was sent on the 20th February, 1905. It was thought desirable to have the system inquired into on the spot by a War Office representative, and the question of the accounting in such cases considered generally before replying to the Auditor-General. The Auditor-General has asked for further particulars and a letter was accordingly sent to the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief in Ireland on the 5th April, to which a reply is awaited.
