HC Deb 13 April 1905 vol 145 cc49-50
MR. FIELD

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he could state the name and qualification of the expert selected to inquire into and report upon the various processes of peat coal manufacture in different countries on the Continent; and whether those reports have been forwarded to the Department of Agriculture for Ireland, and if they are available for Members of the House.

(Answered by Mr. Atkinson.) Mr. John T. Tatlow, who has made a special study of the peat industry in its various branches on the Continent, has acted as the Department's expert since 1901. A report on this industry appears in the proceedings of the Industrial Conference organised by the Department in connection with the Cork Exhibition, 1902, and the subject is further dealt with in articles published in the Department's Journal for June, 1902, and March, 1904. Reports other than the foregoing are not available for publication. It may be added that the term "peat coal" is not applied to any known successful process upon the Continent.
