HC Deb 13 April 1905 vol 145 c53
MR. KENDAL O'BRIEN (Tipperary, Mid)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether, seeing that the salary paid to the teacher of Roll No. 5,094 National School, from 1st June, 1900, to 1st April, 1901, was calculated at £87 per annum, he will say whether there was any departure from the arrangement of calculating the amount of equivalent grant in lieu of results fees, by basing on the average amount earned for the three years previous to the abolition of payment by results; and, if so, under what circumstances, and in what manner, did this departure operate.

(Answered by Mr. Atkinson.) The amount of equivalent grant in lieu of results fees paid in September, 1900, to Mr. M'Carthy, teacher of Mohorough National School, was calculated on the actual earnings in results fees, and the Customs and Excise grant paid for the three preceding years. There was no departure from the usual procedure in this case.
