HC Deb 13 April 1905 vol 145 cc81-2
MR. LUNDON

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland will he lay upon the Table of the House a Return for the various counties of Ireland of the amount of unexpended balances of the Exchequer grant where the apportioned sums have not been utilised; and is he prepared to introduce at any future time legislation to enable district councils, where the shilling in the pound on the valuation shall have been expended, to add the second half acre to the one already occupied by the labourers.

MR. ATKINSON

The information asked for in the first part of the Question will be found on page 264 of the Annual Report of the Local Government Board for 1903–4. Having regard to the many other charges falling on the poor rates, it is not considered desirable to increase the existing rating power for the purposes of the Labourers Acts.
