HC Deb 19 May 1904 vol 135 cc343-4
ME. O'DOHERTY (Donegal, N.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been called to the fact that quantities of herrings have been discharged at Buncrana Pier during the last few weeks; and that on account of the inadequacy of pier accommodation at Buncrana quantities of the fish have been lost in the discharging thereof, and inconvenience is caused to fishermen and others discharging fish at the pier; and whether, as Buncrana is now a well-established fishing centre, steps will be taken to have the existing pier enlarged or another substituted therefor.

(Answered by Mr. Wyndham.)I am informed that large quantities of herrings have been recently landed at Buncrana and that quantities of the fish have been lost for the reason stated. The question of the extension of the pier is, as I have already stated, under the consideration of the Government, who are in correspondence with the Admiralty on the subject.
