§ SIR CARNE RASCHTo ask the Secretary of State for India whether the list of general officers for the Indian etablishment is made up; and, if not, when the vacancies will be filled.
(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) There is an establishment of generals for the Indian Army which is at present full. Under the Royal Warrant, except during a period of war, the maximum number of lieutenant-generals is five, and of major-generals 22. The actual number is governed by the number of promotions to these ranks necessary to fill appointments by selection or as a reward for distinguished service.
