HC Deb 05 May 1904 vol 134 c543
MR. MURPHY (Kenny, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the tenants on an estate at Rockfield, Ballymacelligott, county Kerry, have been threatened by the agent with proceedings for the running gale, which has not been hitherto demanded, in consequence of their refusal to agree to the landlord's terms as to sale; if so, will he state whether the Estates Commissioners have any powers to inquire into the methods by which terms are sometimes forced upon tenants; and, if not, will he include provisions giving such powers fully in the present Land Bill, so as to secure equitable bargains in the interests of the State as well as the tenants.

MR. WYNDHAM

I have no information in respect of the first part of the Question. In sanctioning an advance the Estates Commissioners have due regard to all the circumstances of the case.
