HC Deb 05 May 1904 vol 134 cc539-40
MR. BOLAND (Kerry, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord- Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state why the new insurance scheme for fishermen in Ireland has not yet been put into operation, in view of the fact that it has been under consideration by the Congested Districts Board for the past two years; and whether, in view of the fact that the spring fishery season has now opened, efforts will be made to put it into operation without further delay.

THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. WYNDHAM,) Dover

The scheme was settled by the Board in March last. It is not practicable to make arrangements for working it in time for the spring mackerel season.
