HC Deb 04 May 1904 vol 134 c376
MR. BRIGG

To ask the Secretary to the Treasury if he will furnish the total of the amounts of the loans which have been made by Government under the Public Loans Act to different local authorities and individuals, and the amounts which it is proposed to remit this year.

(Answered by Mr. Victor Cavendish.) The local loans advanced up to the 31st March, 1903, amounted to £167,989,216. The principal sums still outstanding in respect of those loans amounted on that date to £64,044,485. Until the Public Works Loans Bill is introduced, no information can be given as to any loans which it may be proposed to remit or write off under the provisions of that Bill.
