HC Deb 03 May 1904 vol 134 c268
SIR H. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN (Stirling Burghs)

I wish to ask when the right hon. Gentleman will be able to lay on the Table of the House certain Returns promised relating to licensed houses, as to their valuation and the amount of the fund available in each district. The information is essential before the Licensing Bill can be adequately discussed.

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

I am obliged to the right hon. Gentleman for his courteous letter of yesterday. A statement showing for each county and county borough the number of public-house and beer-house licences, and approximately the maximum sum leviable under the Bill in each area, will be laid on the Table of the House to-day. There will also be laid on the Table a short statement as to the procedure followed by the Inland Revenue in ascertaining the value of property for the purposes of estate duty. I hope that copies will be in the Vote Office to-morrow.
