HC Deb 02 May 1904 vol 134 c117
MR. ALFRED DAVIES (Carmarthen Boroughs)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Board of Education if he will say how the approximate amount of £680,000 will be apportioned between the council and voluntary schools in Wales and Monmouth shire; and what will be the extra amount received in respect of both schools over that for the year ending 31st August, 1902.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (SIR WILLIAM ANSON,) Oxford University

The sum of £680,000 represents the total estimated amount of the Exchequer grants payable to local education authorities in Wales and Monmouth shire. The sum paid to each local education authority is not apportioned between council and voluntary schools, but constitutes a fund, which, supplemented as far as may be necessary by rates, enables the authority to discharge its obligation in respect of all public elementary schools within its area.
