HC Deb 02 May 1904 vol 134 cc115-6
MR. CLAUDE HAY

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether, in accordance with The Housing Act, 1903, the administration of the Housing Acts has been concentrated in the Local Government Board, or whether the administration of those Acts is still divided between various Departments; and, in the latter alternative, what steps he has taken to give effect to the decisions of Parliament embodied in the said Act.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. WALTER LONG, Bristol, S.)

A portion of the administration of the Housing of the Working Classes Acts in London is vested in the Secretary of State, and has not at present been transferred to the Local Government Board. The Act of 1903 does not require that such a transfer shall be made, although it affords a means by which it may be effected. I am quite willing that the transfer shall be made, and I have been in communication with my right hon. Friend the † See (4) Debates, cxxxiii., 1033. Home Secretary on the subject. The matter is not yet settled.

MR. CLAUDE HAY

How long will it be before we get the decision?

MR. WALTER LONG

Very soon, I hope.
