§ MR. EDMUND ROBERTSON () DundeeI beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, before proposing to continue or extend the existing taxation on commodities used by the poorer classes in this country, he will cause an inquiry to be made into the duties on publicans' licences, with a view of making them more nearly equivalent to the monopoly value of such licences.
§ MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAINI do not think that any further inquiry into this matter is required.
§ MR. EDMUND ROBERTSONI beg to give notice that I will call attention to the gross inadequacy and unfairness of the existing scale of licensing duties.
