§ MR. HERBERT SAMUEL (Yorkshire, Cleveland)To ask the President of the Local Government Board if he will say what is the maximum period, provided under statute by order of the Board, for the repayment of loans contracted by local authorities for the purposes of the Housing of the Working Classes Acts; and what is the maximum period of repayment permitted by the Public Works Loan Commissioners in respect of money lent by them for those purposes.
(Answered by Mr. Walter Long.) The maximum period for which local authorities can borrow for these purposes is eighty years, and is fixed by The Housing of the Working Classes Act, 1903; but if any such loan is advanced by the Public Works Loan Commissioners, the maximum period allowed by law for its repayment is fifty years.
