§ MR. LEVY (Leicestershire, Loughborough)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can now state the number of convicts employed in the mines in South Africa, and the terms of the contracts whereby they are employed, and especially whether any payment is made for the services of the convicts employed other than that required by the Act of Cape Colony, No. 28, 1888, for their safe custody and maintenance.
