HC Deb 03 March 1904 vol 131 c68
MR. J. P.FARRELL (Longford, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland to state why it is that the tenant purchasers on the Granard Estate living at Soran, county Longford, have been deprived of their turbary, although a large quantity of bog is available in their vicinity; and whether he will direct the Land Commission to take steps under Section 21 of the Irish Land Act, 1903, with a view to providing these tenants with turbary as before.

MR. WYNDHAM

The sales to tenants in this district were closed seven years ago. They were not deprived of any rights of turbary enjoyed by them before purchase.

MR. J. P. FARRELL

Has the right hon. Gentleman seen the judgment of the Land Commissioner in which he expressly declined to give these tenants their turbary rights.

MR. WYNDHAM

I have not seen the judgment but I am informed that after the sale they had every right they enjoyed before.

MR. J. P. FARRELL

I will forward the judgment to the right hon. Gentleman, and perhaps he will bring it to the notice of the Estates Commissioners.
