HC Deb 14 June 1904 vol 136 cc24-5
MR. DELANY (Queen's County, Ossory)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that negotiations for the sale of the estate of Captain Caldbeck, Ballacolla, Queen's county, are in progress, and that an attempt is being made to create tenancies in favour of large farmers and shopkeepers in the untenanted land; and in view of the fact that there are a number of small holdings upon the property requiring enlargement, and some landless houses in the occupation of labourers, he can state whether the Commissioners are prepared under the circumstances to sanction the sale.

MR. WYNDHAM

The Estates Commissioners have not received any application for the purchase of this property. Before sanctioning advances in respect of tenancies created since the 1st January, 1901, the Commissioners cause special inquiries to be made as to the circumstances of other persons in the neighbourhood.
